Biography David Glasson MB ChB, FRACS (Plastic) has been a consultant plastic surgeon in Wellington since 1988. After graduating MB Ch B from Otago, I trained for my Fellowship in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery in Wellington, Melbourne and Oxford, England. Since returning to Wellington in 1988, I have been a surgeon at the Wellington Regional Plastic, Maxillofacial and Burns Unit, and in private practice at Bowen Hospital. In June 2005 I left the public hospital service to work full time in private practice. My public hospital work has included all areas of the specialty e.g. hand and microsurgery, burns, repair of injuries, breast surgery, and the management of skin cancer. However a special achievement has been the establishment of a Craniofacial Surgery service, to correct deformities of the skull and face resulting from birth anomalies, trauma, and tumour surgery. Corrective surgery for facial paralysis has been another long term part of my portfolio. Over the last 10 years, breast surgery has taken an increasing proportion of my workload. Reduction and augmentation are always popular. But demand is growing for breast reconstruction to rebuild the breast at the time of mastectomy for cancer, or later, after cancer surgery and adjuvant therapies. Often surgery of the other breast is required for symmetry e.g. reduction, lift, or even augmentation. Facial rejuvenation requires careful analysis of each patient’s aging changes to select the best options from the menu of surgical procedures, fillers and resurfacing (laser). I have been performing laser resurfacing since 1996, and the technique has an important role in the treatment of facial aging, either on its own, or as an ancillary procedure with facelift and eyelid surgery. Achieving an harmonious result with a combination of modalities gives a great deal of satisfaction to both patient and surgeon. I maintain a continuing professional development programme, and belong to several professional societies, including the NZ Foundation for Cosmetic Plastic Surgery. I have had a busy practice in Wellington since 1988, and I continue to enjoy providing a high quality, ethical, and personal service. |
